  "Lei" means to pestle. By grinding tea leaves, sesame, peanuts and other ingredients into powder in the ceramic bowl, hot or cold water is added to mix everything well before intake.When the ancestors of the Hakka people in Taiwan tried to open barrenland for farming, goods and materials were very scarce. Since the physical labor was intensive, in order to supplement energy and have a healthy body, pestled tea was created.  The Hakka pestled tea not only induces salivation, quenches thirst, it also helps nourishing the spleen and stomach. Therefore, Lei tea is not only a drink but also a well being kind of tea, with Hakka people's ingenious thought and diligence hard working spirit.

【擂】即研磨之意,以陶製擂碗將茶葉,芝麻、花生等多種原料研磨成粉,加入冷熱開水沖泡調勻後飲用。先民篳路藍縷,在開荒時候因物質不充足、體力勞動很大量,為了補充精力而發明了以擂茶的方式來補充體力及促進身體健康。客家的擂茶,不僅能生津渴、清涼解暑,而且還有健脾養胃、滋補之功能。所以擂茶不只是一種飲品,也是一種養生茶,背後更蘊含客家先民克勤克儉的精神及善巧方便的巧思!
